Arbroath ended the season 66/67 in third spot, pipped for a promotion spot by Raith Rovers. The lichties had finished on 57 points, while the men from Kirkcaldy had 58 points, both far behind champions Motton with 69 points.

This was one of Arbroath's top scoring achievements, in a season which ultimately ended in disappointment.

Right from the start the maroons took the game to the loons, with Wilkie opening the scoring in 3 mins. Peem Cant then added two more in 15 and 29 mins, before Kennedy pulled one back. Cant completed his hat trick in 38 mins., and Kennedy scored a second a minute before the break.

The lichties goal spree of the second half started in 49 mins. , when Henderson netted, then Donnelly added a brace in 53 and 77 mins. Cant got his fourth and Arbroath's eighth in 61 mins., and Donnelly then got his hat trick to complete the scoring.

This was the season that Celtic won the European Cup beating Inter Milan in Lisbon, thus completing their trophy haul which comprised the Scottish League Championship,  League Cup, Scottish Cup, ( having knocked out Arbroath 4-0 at Celtic Park in the 1st round ), and Glasgow Cup in addition to the aforementioned european trophy.
