January 11 1969 Arbroath 3-1 Dundee Utd. Scottish League Division 1
After beating Morton the previous week, this win gave us fans the hope that we could survive in the 1st Division. After all in two matches we had doubled our points total from 4 points to 8 ( 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw.). It had been a long hard spell leading up to this match.
The teams went in goalless at half time, and Gayfield erupted when bustling Jimmy Jack put Arbroath in front with a close range shot after a defence splitting pass from Cant.
United equalised 6 mins later, when from a Wilson lob, Kenny Cameron appeared to nudge the lichties keeper, and the ball ended in the net. Sellars replaced the tiring Reid and the switch paid off when the lichties clinched victory with two goals in as many minutes. Firstly Jack added his second, from a Cant pass, and then Wilkie crossed for Sellars to head home.
