1962/63

Arbroath team which defeated Morton - April 1963

Hopes were high at the start of the season, but the league was disappointing for Arbroath with a 6th place finish. The league and Scottish Cup competitions were badly disrupted due to very severe weather during the months of January and February. Second round ties in the cup which should have been played in January, were not settled until March, with Arbroath's epic 2nd round tie with Partick Thistle included.

John Prentice, who had been appointed as full time manager in April 1960, suddenly resigned in September with no reason given ( he ultimately ended up as manager of Clyde ) after 18 months or so in the job, and later became Scotland's first full time manager in March 1966.

This paved the way for Albert Henderson to take up the reins at Gayfield, and become synonymous with the maroons, and one of the finest managers ever to grace the corridors of Gayfield.
