Beginnings

For the last four seasons of Arbroath's participation in the Northern League, they had two reasonable seasons finishing 2nd, and 3rd, in the others 8th. After the previous heroics in the Qualifying cup, the club went through a lean period in this competition also.

In season 1906/07, Arbroath were one match short in their complement of fixtures, and in 1908/09, the club were two matches short. There are no records of whether the matches were played or not. In the Qualifying cup, teams often gave up home advantage when drawn against clubs with better facilities. This was the case in the three matches above.
