Relichtie
Beginnings
Wartime Football
from 1944/46.
Arbroath re-entered league football again in August 1944, when they joined the North-Eastern League. This competition adopted an unusual format. The ten clubs would play each other home and away between August and December 1944, the top four clubs would then play off for the supplementary cup, and the teams would then play each other on another home and away format from January to April 1945.
Arbroath didn't finish in the top four, and as the league tables were only published in the early stages, ie after 7 matches in '44, and 9 in '45, I have recorded the results against the respective sides instead.
Arbroath scores first.

Arbroath side who defeated Hearts 5-2, September 2nd 1944
The team that day was Brownlee, Fordyce, Carruthers, Feeley, Woods, Urquhart, Gould, Court, Shirley, Ferguson, Dryden.
Arbroath also competed for the Mitchell Trophy, going down 3-8 to Raith Rovers ( 1-4 at home, 2-4 away), and a disastrous 0-6 Forfarshire Cup final loss to Dundee completed a miserable finish to the season.
