Arbroath FC in the candy stripe kit of the late 60's

After pre season friendlies at home to Shrewsbury 0-1, and away to Ipswich Town 3-4 (Jack 2, Cant), the season opened with the league cup, and Arbroath finished in 3rd place with 6 points, but were the only team to take a point from section winners Ayr Utd.

    pts home scorers away scorers
1 Ayr Utd. 11 1-1 Jack (pen). 1-3 Wilkie.
2 Stirling Alb. 6 2-1 Jack, Sellars. 0-1
3 Arbroath. 6
4 Cowdenbeath. 1 2-0 Stirling, Jack. 1-1 Sellars.

After the previous seasons promotion, Arbroath opened their 1st Division campaign away to Airdrie 0-2, and picked up their first point in their first home match against St Mirren. Points, though would be hard to realise in the top league, and up to the turn of the year only four points, all from draws, had been accumulated. After defeat at Paisley in the New Year fixture, successive home victories to Morton, and Dundee Utd saw the lichties double their points tally and gave the fans some hope. Sadly results declined, and despite a mini revival in March the club were relegated back to the 2nd Division after the one season.
